Regarding Modules, the foundation is in place and others will continue the work. For JSR 294, there is a draft specification posted on jcp.org. The question is how much to tweak it and in which direction. I also assume some implementation pieces will be posted on OpenJDK soon. JSR 277 is even further along. A first draft was made publicly available in late 2006 and a significantly revised specification was sent to the EG last spring. A pre-beta implementation that supports all the core dependency, versioning, module initialization, and class loading features has been available on OpenJDK since last June. I have no reason to believe that the work will not be completed in time for JDK 7. Andreas.
